(29052020)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message

Principal’s Message

Dear teachers, students and parents,

As we all know, students have gone back gradually to schools from this week. They are very excited about seeing each other again on campus and schools are the best place for their learning. I believe our students are also looking forward to coming back to school. However, due to the hygiene concern, we would follow the instructions from DET and keep on providing online learning for our students. I’m pleased to know that parents have presented their greatest support on our decision and I would like to present my sincerely appreciation to all the parents.

Although the learning is delivered online, our teaching objectives, standards and quality remain the same, which is also the reason why our school is acknowledged in communities. In Term 2, the end-of-term tests would go virtually, quite different from our usual forms. We would no longer present tests in written-form only this time. Considering the nature of online learning, Term 2 tests would focus more on oral (speaking) forms and test questions would be different from our usual written tests. I would like to let you know that tests are not only one way of assessing the achievement of the teaching, but also the way of reviewing what has been learnt. Therefore, students don’t have to worry too much about the tests. Their honest feedback in the tests would also help us to improve our teaching in the future.

Last week, I mentioned that students have presented their great interest in the Online Chinese Culture Camp and up to now 840 students have registered for the event. I’m very glad that our students are so interested in Chinese culture and their interest would be the greatest motivation of Chinese language learning. To support the event, we have established a team including campus managers working together and the principals of Accelerated Chinese Program and VCE Program would be the leaders of junior and senior groups separately. We are now recruiting class leaders for the event and the recruitment work would be done by this weekend. All the class leaders would work as volunteers within two weeks organising students to listen to the stories designated, providing supporting materials and assisting students in learning tasks. Parents are also expected to encourage students to ‘attend’ the event every day, keep on learning and accomplish learning tasks. All the well-performed students would be awarded “Excellent Participants” and be able to attend the Chinese Culture Camp in China in the future.

Last week, I also mentioned that speech presentation video footage of 180 students have been posted online at our school website for public voting and many students and parents have casted their votes. If you haven’t tried yet, please feel free to visit our website at https://xjs.vic.edu.au/speech-contest.

The last week of Term 2 is 20/21 June and Term 3 starts on 18/19 July.

See you this weekend.

Best regards,

Kevin Hu  Principal
